9-11 February 2025 / David & Lenka

I met this lovely couple in Taman Soekasada Ujung, a very relaxing water garden in East Bali, near Amlapura from the latest King of Karangasem. This is one of the highlight all tourist must see in East Bali.

The next morning February 10th, I was lucky to drive this couple around the east Bali. The first place we visited was Amlapura market, a morning market located in the heart of capital of East Bali, Amlapura. This market is the central market that seller and buyer come from nearby 7 km radius of the areas. It opens early in the morning at 05.00 am to 5.00 pm but of course more interesting to visit before 11.00 am the best time for you to see the crowd of the traditional market in Bali.

Along the visit to the market, I guided the couple to see closely what people can get at the market for daily needs. Products of fresh vegetables, meats, life chickens, sort of fruits, sort of nuts, different rice on display, fresh fishes, and beautiful flowers that Balinese use for offering.

From this market, we continued the trip to visit Bukit Cinta, around 10 minutes drive from the market. Bukit Cinta is the new set of point to view the beautiful scenery of rice fields on the distance and Mt. Agung. Unfortunately the weather was cloudy and showering rain. Then proceed to visit Tirtagangga, the water palace, a beautiful gardeen with huge fountains and Giant Koi’s ponds and a little cooler area in East Bali. This palace is another palace in the area that tourist must visit.

Then I drove the couple further to visit Lempuyang Temple for about 15 minutes drive from the Water Palace of Tirtagangga. Lempuyang temple is one of the famous temple located on the slope of Blibis hill for its Instagramable beauties of the mirrored photos on a huge gate with Mt. Agung on distance as the background. Lempuyang temple also offers the beauty of the Balinese temple it self with magnificent view around.

On the Feb 11th, we managed to visit Besakih temple on the way to Ubud. Besakih is wellknown as the Mother Temple of Bali, the biggest temple complex that located on the slope of Mt. Agung. There are 1 main temple (Pura Penataran Agung) and other 18 temples around. A very beautifull temples with multi roofed shrines called Meru. This temple was built in 1284 but archeologist found the stone bases of few temples resemble megalitic stepped pyramids, which date back at least 2,000 years.

  1. We had an amazing time. Always on time, polite, informative and fun to be around with. We’ve learned a lot about Balinese customs and traditions. The Amlapura area has so much to offer and so do this man’s services! Do not miss out! 🙂
